Introduction
Jeddah King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED) is a principal gateway to Saudi Arabia, currently hosting over 4.5 million passengers annually. Jeddah King Abdulaziz Airport is located 19 kilometres (12 miles) north of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The terminals at King Abdulaziz Airport offer many facilities including banks, shops, medical facilities, and a prayer room. Services available at King Abdulaziz Airport include car hire, information counters and telecommunications.
Jeddah Airport expects to more than double its capacity under a $1.5 billion airport expansion plan that will also enable it to host the world's largest aircraft, including A380s. Two new railway stations with connections to Makkah and Medinah are also being planned, aimed primarily at serving pilgrims to the holy cities.
Jeddah Airport was the first international airport to be constructed in a programme established by the Saudi Arabian government for the development of Saudi Arabia's international airports.
