Johannesburg International Airport Terminal Information
Introduction
Johannesburg Airport has six terminals housed in one building. Terminals 1 and 2 are for international arrivals. Terminal 3 handles South African Airways (SAA) and South African Express Airways domestic arrivals and Terminal 4 handles non-SAA domestic arrivals. Terminal 5 is the domestic departure area for all airlines, and Terminal 6 is the international departures area.
Information kiosks are located in each of the terminals. Baggage trolleys and porter services are available at designated areas in each terminal and at the various drop-off zones. For security, visitors should only use the blue-uniformed porters displaying ACSA-authorised permits.
The VAT Refund desk is situated in the holding lounge of international departures (Terminal 6). All invoices must be stamped by customs, located in the public concourse, before being submitted.
Shopping
Spread across the terminal buildings are florists, bookstores, shoe and sportswear shops, sweet shops and shops selling biltong and dried fruit.
Duty Free
The airport's duty-free retail shopping mall offers an eclectic mix of international brands of sportswear, alcohol, perfume and cigars, jewellery, toys and electronic goods, as well as superb handcrafted African artefacts. The main duty-free shop, Big Five Duty Free, is second in size only to that of London's Heathrow Airport.
Restaurants and Bars
There is a wide selection of cafes and restaurants in the public concourse and holding lounges of the international and domestic arrivals and departures halls. In the public concourse of Terminals 1 and 2 are Nando's, Café Select, Steers and Juicy Lucy. The public concourse of Terminals 3 and 4 houses De Havillands, Isikhonkwane Restaurant and Wimpy, whilst Terminal 5 has the Flying Fox, Gateway Bar and Juicy Lucy. The Junction and Traveller's Shebeen are located in Terminal 6.
Currency Exchange and ATMs
Foreign Exchange Desks
Foreign exchange outlets for ABSA Bank, American Express, Rennies Foreign Exchange and Master Currency are situated on the public concourse of the international arrivals hall (Terminal 2). ABSA Bank also has an outlet in the holding lounge of the international departures hall (Terminal 6), but it is not for use by South African residents.
Banks and Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs)
Nedbank and ABSA banks have branches on the international arrivals (Terminal 2) public concourse mezzanine level and ATMs at the international arrivals public concourse, domestic arrivals public concourse (Terminal 4), domestic departures public concourse and the domestic departures holding lounge (Terminal 5).
