Introduction
Kansai International Airport (KIX) is the international airport for the Kansai region of Japan that connects travellers with a host of destinations worldwide.
Located on a spectacular artificial island in the waters of Osaka Bay, one of the largest natural harbours on Japan's coast, KIX is 50 kilometres (31 miles) southwest of Osaka. KIX International Airport serves Kansai, an area that includes the cities of Osaka, Kyoto and Kobe. A variety of transport options to the surrounding area include airport trains, ferries, buses, taxis and limousines.
Ranked as the world’s fifth best airport by Skytrax in 2005 (behind Hong Kong International, Singapore Changi, Seoul Incheon and Munich Airport), Kansai International Airport provides first-class services and amenities for international travelers. Meanwhile, most domestic traffic goes through the Osaka Airport located in Itami.
The ultra-modern terminal building at Kansai Airport provides a wide range of shops, restaurants, bars, business, banking, medical, family, disabled and tourist information services. Conference rooms and mobile phone rental are available, as are extensive parking facilities and car rental from leading providers.
