Introduction
Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) handles around 60% of flights in and out of Shanghai, south-east China’s flourishing business city.
This Shanghai airport, which opened in 1999, replaced Shanghai Hongqiao Airport as Shanghai's international airport and has undergone major growth in recent years with the addition of a second runway in 2005, and longer-term plans to provide four terminals and four runways to meet capacity of 80 million passengers per year are being implemented.
Pudong Airport Shanghai is located 30 km (19 miles) away from central Shanghai and 40 km (25 miles) away from the Hong Qiao International Airport. Efficient road and rail connections to Shanghai include Maglev Train, taxi, limousine, buses and rented car: average car journey times into Shanghai take about 30 minutes. A dedicated airport bus direct to Shanghai Exhibition Centre is also provided, and a metro service linking Shanghai Pudong Airport with the Hong Qiao Airport is due for completion by 2010.
